The World is experiencing variability in precipitation, increased temperatures, drought frequencies and intensities. While Uganda’s climate is moderate, extreme weather events such as floods, landslides, and prolonged drought are becoming more frequent in the country, threatening people’s livelihoods especially those living in the natural flood plains of rivers, mountainous areas, and semi-arid regions. While the government has made commendable efforts to discourage human activities in wetland ecosystems and forests, there remains a pressing need to sensitize communities on how these areas can magnify climate change consequences that can last a life time, if not well managed. These ecosystems are of great importance to human well-being. There is a need of increasing awareness among the local communities on the best land use while protecting the natural and beneficial functions of these natural treasures such as flood protection, water purification, etc and promotion of measures to enhance “climate-neutral” economic activities like planting forests.
